Flight Explorer Adds New Desktop Interface and Graphical TFRs to Flagship Product
Flight Explorer Booth # 2610 at NBAA in Orlando
Fairfax, VA and Orlando, FL – September 11, 2002 – Flight Explorer®, the world’s leading provider of Internet-based real-time flight tracking information, reporting and display products, today announced that it has added two new and important features to its flagship product, Flight Explorer Professional®, that enable powerful third-party integration capabilities and the graphical depiction of temporary flight restrictions (TFRs). The announcement was made at the National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) Convention in Orlando, FL.
Flight Explorer is the maker of Flight Explorer Professional®, the easiest, most robust and reliable aircraft situation display in the industry. With only a personal computer and Internet access, commercial users and others providing aviation services can use Flight Explorer to track aircraft anywhere over the U.S. (including Alaska and Hawaii), Canada, the UK, New Zealand and portions of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Flight Explorer Professional updates the aircraft positions every minute and refreshes the screen views every 10 seconds.
“Many of our customers including corporate flight departments, fractionals and air charter companies want to integrate Flight Explorer with their flight planning, scheduling or operations systems such as CTA’s FOS-NT (Flight Operations Systems for Windows NT). This new feature enables them to do this quickly and easily,” said Walter Kross, president and CEO of Flight Explorer. “Also adding the ability to overlay graphical TFRs in this post-9/11 environment makes this an even more powerful product and we’re excited to offer it.”
The new Flight Explorer desktop interface functionality:
Allows third-party developers (flight planning systems and others) to interface their applications with Flight Explorer Professional running on a user's desktop.
Allows User Interface (GUI) interaction, data sharing and auto-population of Flight Explorer's My Fleet list by the third-party application.
Provides the end user with a seamless interaction of Flight Explorer's powerful aircraft tracking, monitoring and alerting features with the third party application's feature set.
The addition of graphical depiction of TFRs will help ensure that these areas are avoided during flight and will dramatically improve flight planning and situational awareness. The current methods pilots use to identify and avoid TFRs, text descriptions sent out in NOTAMs, can be very difficult to use and visualize; and pilots can easily violate them. These graphical TFRs are updated every 12 hours. They are for advisory purposes and the official NOTAMs should always be consulted for the latest restrictions.
