Flight Explorer Inks National Weather Service Deal
Flight Explorer, a Fairfax, Va., firm that monitors flight paths of commercial airliners, announced today that the National Weather Service is testing its service to determine the impact of weather service maps on pilot behavior.
NWS forecasters are overlaying flight information ? which shows the times as well as routes of flights ? on top of weather service maps that show weather fluctuations.
The degree to which pilots either change their speeds or alter their routes would indicate how widely the maps are read, a Flight Explorer spokesman said.
