Global Aircraft Tracking Service Enhances Weather Options
To Keep Aircraft Out of Harm’s Way
Alexandria, Va.– March 21, 2005 – Flight Explorer, the world's most trusted and accepted provider of Internet-based, real-time global flight tracking information, reporting and display products, announced today that it has enhanced its weather options to provide aviation professionals with a more robust common operating picture.
The weather information comes from a number of sources, including the National Weather Service (NWS) and allows users to display and animate the weather to see storm system movement and direction. In total, Flight Explorer Professional makes available more than 40 different weather overlays including U.S. and Canadian Nexrad, worldwide IR satellite and the Collaborative Convective Forecast Product (CCFP). In Flight Explorer Professional’s latest release, the CCFP has been enhanced to reflect color palette changes introduced by the NWS for easier identification.
Flight Explorer also offers a real-time lightning overlay for the continental U.S. at a fraction of the cost available from other companies. This more affordable option provides lightning information from the United States Precision Lightning Network.
Walt Kross, CEO of Flight Explorer, said, “These weather product overlays on Flight Explorer enable dispatchers, pilots, customer service agents and ground crews to increase safety and make more proactive decisions to reduce air traffic delays, reroutes and cancellations. Customer reaction to these new features has been very positive.”
Flight Explorer is the maker of Flight Explorer Professional, the easiest, most robust and reliable aircraft situation display in the industry. With only a personal computer and Internet access, commercial users and others providing aviation services can use Flight Explorer to track aircraft anywhere in the world through a variety of methods including the FAA’s ASDI feed for IFR traffic, international radar feeds, Honeywell GDC datalink, ACARS, and satellite/GPS tracking. Flight Explorer Professional updates aircraft positions every minute and refreshes screen views every 10 seconds.
