Flight Explorer Service Delivery: Hurricane Irene

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), has advised that Hurricane Irene is currently projected to impact the East Coast of the United States this weekend. Flight Explorer has multiple levels of redundancies and procedures in place to maintain our service during this critical period. We would like to share the following with you regarding our preparation and planning for this event.

  • We have reviewed our emergency plan to make sure all of our staff is prepared. Site Operations personnel have taken additional precautionary measures to guard against interruption of your services.

  • We utilize two, fully operational redundant data centers, with 24x7 monitoring of communications, processing, product and building status.

  • Redundant power for all operational equipment fed from separate UPS strings and PDUs. The generators have been tested, fuel levels verified, and backup fuel vendors have been placed on standby in the event of extended power interruption, to provide power for as long as may be necessary.

  • Special arrangements have been made to make sure staff is available on site as necessary to maintain operability standards.

  • Building-level UPS capacity that covers all operational systems.

  • Multiple redundant paths for critical data feeds

  • Multiple sources for most other feeds

  • Multiple Tier 1 Internet Providers in our two data centers

  • Communication paths into/out of our facilities are redundant and diversely routed

  • All critical computing infrastructures are redundant in our two production data centers and will auto failover without any customer action.
